Because we desire to protect youth/children in our ministry, Burge Terrace requires all staff members and volunteers above the age of 18 who are working with youth or children to complete a four step safety system before ministry work or volunteer placements begin.
Step 1: Screening Process
Staff members and volunteers working or serving with youth/children are required to complete the Burge Terrace screening process by completeing/turning in a Youth/Children’s Ministry Volunteer Interest Form. This form screens for:
- Personal and Family Information
- Prior Experience
- Personal References
- Private Information
- Personal Commitment
Step 2: Criminal Background Check
Burge Terrace requires that all staff members and volunteers working or volunteering in youth/children’s activities undergo a criminal background check.
Step 3: Policies and Procedures
Staff members and volunteers are required to review all policies and procedures contained in the Burge Terrace Child Safety System Manual and sign a Manual Agreement Form indicating that he or she has read and understood the material and agrees to comply with policy requirements.
Step 4: Abuse Awareness Training
Burge Terrace has a zero tolerance for abuse in ministry programs. To equip staff members and volunteers with information to recognize abuser characteristics and grooming behavior, Burge Terrace requires all staff members and volunteers to complete Sexual Abuse Awareness Training through MinistrySafe. This training will be renewed every two years. View our Youth/Child Safety System Manual.
